(2021) These are the first two paintings I made since coming back from my second visit to the incredible, majestic and spiritual Carnarvon Gorge in Outback Queensland in 2021. I think this diptych is inspired by our venture up to the lookout at Battleship Spur near our campsite Big Bend. It is one of the hardest climbs I have done so far. But of course totally worth it once we got to the top and was rewarded with the most incredible view over the wide spread canyon we had just hiked through. (2024) This first painting of 2024 shows a new and somewhat more sophisticated direction in my work. An interesting exploration of the small things in our natural world that is part of the whole. "Fragment From Beyond" was born from a small detail I spotted in one of my other paintings, "Beyondering". It was quite fascinating to discover that all the smaller building blocks in my paintings actually are artworks in themselves. (2023) "And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul" is a quote I love by John Muir. These words popped into my head when I was coming up with a title for this painting. I found it suitable, as this is the same state I search to find when I get in the zone of painting. This piece had many shapes and forms before it took me on a journey to this destination.
